Light Router Tutorial

API consumers can use Light-router if they don’t support Java 8/11, or they are implemented with other programming languages in the service to service communication. It is the service mesh feature like other service mesh providers; however, we only need a Light router for consumers built on other frameworks other than light-4j, which has an embedded gateway in every instance. Best of all, the gateway in light-router or light-4j instance can be easily extended or customized as they are all designed as pluggable middleware handlers to address certain cross-cutting concerns. With more flexibility and extendability than other service-mesh solutions, we call it service-mesh-plus

The other scenario is to deploy light-router to the DMZ to act as an API gateway for traffic from the Internet. The light-router can handle all the gateway functions as well as supporting Desktop, SPA and Mobile applications.

Shared Gateway

One of the use cases of light-router is to use it as an API gateway for external clients to access internal services. We call it external access points. Live Example

As all our services are built with light-4j frameworks, we don’t need to use light-router instances for service to service communication. We do use light-router to support the SPA and mobile applications from the Internet. Light Portal Virtual Hosts

Virtual host on light-router

In the previous tutorial, we have shown how to sever a single page application from a router instance. In this tutorial, we are going to expend it again to host multiple domains in the same router instance. Router to render SPA

This tutorial is based on the taiji-faucet application in the folder networknt/light-config-test/light-router. The configuration is copied from taiji-faucet and modified in the router-spa folder.
